Music by the French-Creole composer known as the “Black Mozart” and turn-of the-20th-century French composers Gabriel Faure and Maurice Ravel are featured. The concert opens with a quartet by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who was a biracial Creole free man of color, is considered to be the first classical composer of African descent to receive widespread critical acclaim.
