International Pianist Jim-Isaac Chua to hold Benefit Concert for The Arc of Spokane
The Arc of Spokane welcomes internationally-renowned pianist Jim-Isaac Chua to Spokane to host a benefit concert on Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m. at the Bing Crosby Theater. Chua will be performing masterpieces by well-known composers such as Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, and Rameau. All proceeds from the concert will benefit The Arc of Spokane, which provides services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families.
“We are thrilled and honored to partner with Isaac,” Chief Executive Officer Sima Thorpe said. “Mr. Chua is not only a phenomenal musician, but a fierce advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”
Chua is a Filipino-American pianist who was raised in Richland, Washington, and made frequent trips to Spokane to perform. He participated in MusicFest Northwest for a number of years, and this will be his fifth time performing at the Bing. He has performed extensively in the USA, Canada, Austria, France, Italy, Poland, Taiwan, and South-East Asian countries. Chua has been awarded in numerous international competitions in the USA, Austria, and France.
“As a pianist, I don’t think there is anything as fulfilling as using the beauty of music to further the beauty of our community,” Chua said. “This concert is sure to raise support and awareness for the IDD community.”
The Arc is a non-profit that has been serving people with IDD and their families since 1950. Currently, it operates about 30 different programs and services that ensure people with IDD and their families have support for employment, healthcare, community engagement, in schools, and more. The Arc also does advocacy on both an individual and legislative level.
“Mr. Chua’s concerts are inclusive and accessible to all. The concert will provide an opportunity for everyone in our community to support our mission and connect through Mr. Chua’s music,” Thorpe said.
In addition to the benefit concert, Chua will perform for The Arc’s Community Center members on Thursday, September 21.
“I hope this [concert] will encourage our community to celebrate one another so that we can create an inclusive society where everyone (especially those with disabilities) may live truly integrated lives,” Chua said.
Tickets for the September 22, 2023 concert will be available at www.bingcrosbytheater.com on July 14, 2023.
