THE STORYTELLERS for October 2023:

MELANIE WARMAN & LESLIE LOWE:
Melanie Warman is a published author and has a story of living most of her life with the overwhelming feeling there was something wrong with her; at times she was even driven to want to disappear. Her struggles with ADHD, OCD, eating disorders, trichotillomania, seemed all consuming and drove her to live her life hiding the unworthy person she believed she was, constantly trying to become the person she thought she had to be to find love and belonging. A near death experience though was the wake up call she needed to finally start living as herself. Her mother, Leslie Lowe joins her story to share similar struggles with body image, eating disorders, OCD, and the search for worthiness, highlighting how generational trauma and toxic behaviors can be passed down from generation to generation. You may recognize Leslie Lowe as one of Spokane's beloved news and weather anchors working for NonStop Local KHQ.

WES PATTERSON:
Wes Patterson has a story originally created in partnership with a Spokane nonprofit that no longer exists to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in religious spaces. Wes is a Christian who grew up most of his life believing who he was, was not okay because he was gay. Years of condemnation, both subtly and blatantly preached at him, led him to believe he couldn't share his truth with anyone and that he had to do whatever he could to become straight. His story and beautiful message is not one though that attacks the Christian faith, but rather reminds the world who Jesus really was and what he stood for: Loving ALL people without judgement.

KATIE CHIN:
To the outside world, Katie's life looks fabulous, and it is! Standing on the shoulders of a restaurant empire built by her late mother, Leeann Chin, Katie is an incredibly talented celebrity chef, award-winning cookbook author, food blogger and the Culinary Ambassador to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
She's appeared on the Food Network, The Real on Fox, The Today Show, The Hallmark Channel and most recently, The Kelly Clarkson Show. However, amidst all the success and fame, she will be the first one to tell you about her family's battle with mental health that was kept secret for decades as well as her own personal struggle with depression. "Some of the trauma I've experienced and my family experienced, if I don't share it, I can't truly be free... and if I don't share it, I have missed an opportunity to help others." - Katie Chin

BRIANNE DAVIS:
Brianne Davis is an actress and published author with her memoir: "Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex and Love Addict"
Brianne has been in recovery from sex and love addiction for over 12 years and shares her story in a beautifully raw way. What is sex and love addiction, you might be asking?
"Sex & love addicts are searching for something outside of themselves – a person, relationship, or experience – to provide them with something they feel they are missing. They will use romantic or sexual experiences to “fix” themselves so they contemporarily feel emotionally whole.
Classed as emotional intimacy disorders, sex & love addiction are not measured or diagnosed in quantity, quotation, (i.e., not by how much or how often) but by how the behavior adversely impacts on the addict or those around them.
As with any addiction, the patterns of behavior are compulsive & out of control, & continue time & time again despite there being negative consequences.
All sex & love addicts have underlying emotional problems and/or have suffered from trauma. Nearly all of them experience a lack of self-esteem & lack of self-love. Sex and love addicts have learned to escape painful emotions such a shame, fear, depression, & anxiety with the intense rush of sex, love, or romantic fantasy.” - Phoenix Programmes
